Postnatal Check-Up with a Women’s Health Physio
Having a baby is a life-changing experience, but it also puts a lot of physical strain on your body. A postnatal check-up with a Women’s Health Physiotherapist can help you recover, restore strength, and get you feeling your best.
What Does a Postnatal Check-Up Involve? At Health Canvas, our postnatal check-up is all about you and your recovery. A typical session includes:
Pelvic floor assessment: We check for muscle strength and function, and help you manage any signs of pelvic floor dysfunction like incontinence or prolapse. We use Real time ultrasound as well as an internal vaginal examination for the thorough assessment.
Abdominal check: We'll assess for any abdominal separation (diastasis recti) and guide you through exercises to improve strength.
Posture and alignment: Pregnancy and childbirth can impact your posture, and we’ll help you regain your strength and flexibility.
Tailored recovery plan: Based on your needs, we’ll create an exercise program to safely rebuild strength and fitness.
When Should You See a Physiotherapist?
We recommend coming for a postnatal check-up about 6-8 weeks after delivery. Whether you had a natural birth or C-section, this is the perfect time to assess your recovery and begin gentle rehabilitation. If you experience pain, incontinence, or pelvic floor issues earlier, don’t hesitate to book sooner.
Why Do You Need a Postnatal Check-Up?
Postnatal recovery isn’t just about “bouncing back”- it’s about restoring your body’s strength and function.
A physiotherapist can help you:
Prevent long-term issues like pelvic organ prolapse or chronic back pain
Support your body as you return to exercise safely
Manage symptoms like pelvic pain, incontinence, or diastasis recti
Taking care of yourself is essential as you care for your little one. A postnatal check-up is the first step towards a strong, healthy recovery!
